BT in U of W Wind Tunnel 1994
... Learned
Testing his unique optimal aerodynamics of his Speed Ski tuck, at University of Washington Wind Tunnel. Brian Taylor tested in tunnel with 2 other speed skiing friends: Nick Yarymovych and Geoff Moore, each having different body shapes than BT, who is a mesomorph. His 2 friends had body shapes of ectomorph & endomorph. Upon final analysis of all the extensive data, we found that the optimal tuck differs slightly due to your body shape, including height and weight - in relation to girth. It is possible to find your most aerodynamic tuck, which is not static or the same for all speeds, but rather changes slightly based upon speed. Since we had radios in our helmets, we could hear feedback as to our position which was most aerodynamic. Thereby giving us a chance to burn that body position into our muscle memory. Matt Clarke is a 4th year Engineering student at Cambridge. He's in the process of completing a Master's on Computational Fluid Dynamics of speed ski racers. Any help you send Matt's way, would be appreciated. Matt has 2 email addresses: use either his email address at Cambridge or his personal email address. |
